The incumbent is responsible for independently planning, developing and implementing a comprehensive environmental health program on the assigned reservations. Environmental Health Services activities are performed In accordance with Environmental Health Services, Indian Health Service Manual and other written OEH&E; guidelines.
The selected applicant will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation, which will include a fingerprint check. If applicable-Selective Service registration (Males born after 12/31/59) U.S. Citizenship is required
Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive environmental health program on assigned reservations that emphasizes safe water, solid and hazardous waste management, food protection, occupational health and safety, vector control, community injury prevention, radon gas, and institutional health.
Assist in developing environmental health and occupational safety policies, procedures, regulations, employee training programs and public education materials.
Perform epidemiological and infection control investigations to identify environmental factors with the potential for transmission of disease.
Serve as the community injury prevention facilitator for the assigned reservations; assists in the development of an interdisciplinary and epidemiological approach to reduce injuries.
Assist tribes in locating resources and writing grant proposals to secure external sources of funding for injury prevention/environmental health projects.
Collect and analyze data used to evaluate the program and prepares reports to provide activity information to the District and Area Office.
Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Degree: major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. Transcripts must be submitted at time of initial application.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-7 AND ABOVE:
GS-07: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 OR 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement
GS-09: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of an Environmental Health Specialist. Experience in the professional practice of Environmental Health (this means they have their Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Registered Sanitarian credentials) - conducting surveys, investigations, risk assessment, program evaluation, etc. Experience in the application of the principles of community injury prevention; experience in the application of the principles of environmental sustainability; and experience as a health center safety officer. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
